Not too many 3rd Century Roman coins excite me as much as the earlier ones do, but...

... this one definitely does.

Pupienus... in Mint State. Wow.

(Not my coin, obviously, and not likely to ever be, but we can dream, right?)

That is a cool (and rare) coin. Very well struck as well.

That is a great looking coin and from such a rare to find Emperor. I have been lurking and watching pieces for an example and like LM said, this one will have to go to the dream list.

dude was "co-emperor" for about 4 seconds before the praetorians had enough
    what a miracle of survival

it is truly a wonder that the empire lasted as long as it did

Ha. I'd need more than luck. That one is outta my reach, alas.

I had a Pupienus sestertius in my first Roman collection, but Balbinus was one I never got.

Never had Aemilian, either. Or Pertinax, of course.

There aren't many late emperors on my list, but Pertinax is one. I've always found his story appealing and saddening - a good person being struck down so quickly after his ascension. I am cutting my collection off after the Millennial anniversary of Rome, so this sestertius of Philip the Arab will be my youngest coin, if I can manage to stay focused:
