cardbender, find me an Aaron RC like that and not only will i be your best friend, i will fetch the paper, chase away cats and learn how to bark the alphabet.
That 8 is really outstanding. If it were centered a hair higher I would find it a more impressive piece than a 10 of the same card. Must have been hard to let that card you owned for so long go. I can only imagine that the others had equally great eye appeal.
Cards often become relegated in discussion to mere price tags, as some get ensnared in the reductive measuring contest of what card has the highest dollar value. But there is much else to card collecting, beyond what card costs the most. One of those things is the big win of finding a card that looks identical to a card someone else plunked down a ton for, but cost you a lot less. That Aaron 8 is a prime example of this; the side borders, the corners, the color, that card screams MINT.
<< <i>I agree. Don't mean to pile on, but I have bid on cards in their auctions the past couple of weeks that have gone for 20-40% above the norm and some for double the amount. Strange thing is these are not bump cards that are old labels that someone might get a 1/2 grade out of them, and there is literally the same card on Ebay in a BIN for less that is not selling. Can't figure it out. >>
Oh, you can figure it out! >>
I've been the under bidder on a lot of PWCC cards that sold well over VCP.........I've never been contacted to see if I still wanted the card.........are these consignors bidding their own cards to record prices and then paying for them?

That would be an extremely dumb strategy. PWCC charges 8% for their consignment fees on a single card with a final value of over $5,000, so the seller is paying around $1,360 to get his card back? The other option would be to renege on the deal, which would get you banned from bidding on their auctions.

Maybe PWCC auctions are marketed better and get more and higher bids? Maybe they have better inventory? Don't know the reason for getting 25-35%+ pops over other auctions but they do in terms or prices. Someone smarter than myself would have to answer this question. If they do get that much over VCP why would you not use them? If something nefarious is going on what could it be? Buddies shill bidding or people working in tandem and PWCC does not have anything to do with it? Don't know. One thing they REALLY emphasize is they don't allow shill bidding. Don't know but would love to get the prices they get when selling.

How exactly do you think that scenario would play out? I'm curious to know.
