I would recommend searching Heritage completed listings for PCGS XF45 - AU58 examples. This will give you a variety of high resolution images you can examine.

you will simply have to look at a lot of images/coins and it would help to find someone in-person knowledgeable and willing to talk.

you will find nuance and inconsistencies, especially with the odd strikes for coins of the earth 19th century.
