I am considering a new challenge: 1969 Topps Football (Looking for insight and advice)

I am an avid collector of baseball unopened, graded, and raw cards. To help keep things fun and interesting, I have been thinking about tip toeing into football cards. I have began to look at different designs and eras. I have decided to tackle the 1969 Topps Football set in raw form (NM or better condition). The set has wonderful design and colors, and is a manageable size (263 cards.). I am looking for some advice and insight on what to look for with the set, along with some caveats that will cause challenged. I am starting from scratch, so I have my work cut out for me. Thanks in advance.

Nice set to go after. The '69 is the oldest set I have completed, but it's in P-VGish condition at best.

    Good luck with your quest.

    Hi John,

Should be a lot of fun.

Finding sharp cards in the second series, is a little more challenging than the first series I have found.

Are you going to collect the 4 in 1 inserts & team booklets also?

I might possibly be able to help you out with a few cards as I have some high condition duplicates if you might have an interest.
You can always drop me a PM if you'd like.

Either way, Good Luck with building a Nice Set!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

Kirk, to answer your questions, I am going to try to do the team booklet and 4-in-1 sets too. Also, a pm is on the way. image

Great set! I have put it together in several forms. Got a good ways into a graded set PSA 7 and 8 quality. I have put together several raw sets. A couple cards were always tough in PSA 8. I think Jim Cadile still is. I would agree that the second series is tougher because of the borders and the checklist have variations if you are looking to do a master set.

Not much advice on how to do it, but I will say that raw sets are reasonable and might be a way to get some nice commons at a good price.
