  • Yes, PSA negotiates bulk discounts. They do not publicly state amounts/prices, so you'll have to contact them directly for that.
  • thank you for the info

They have stated in their annual 10K filing with the SEC that their lowest card fee was $3. It did not say with who or how many cards were in that negotiated price. In the previous year, they said their lowest fee was $4
  • 4 dollars would be sweet

  • Im into the 1980-1989 topps baseball its the years I grew up in and collected
I spent about 10k or so with bbc this year for cases of some of these years
so they aren't worth grading most of the cards at $5.50 each your looking at like 40 grand to grade them for a master set
I asked if there was away to get them cheaper at 1500 cards maybe $5.25 each
so now what should I do

    1. Consider another grading company and their bulk pricing.
    2. Suck it up and pay the PSA price.

Last time I talked to Joe about a bulk discount, he referred me to their bulk submission customer service person. I don't recall his name as they've had different people in that position over the past few years. I didn't have any luck getting a better deal. I did in early 2013. I guess it depends on how hungry they are. I was willing to submit 2000 cards. I ended up subbing about 400 under the standard special instead. They have been inching their way down on the monthly specials, so maybe they will be more open to it now. I bet if you offered to grade 10s of thousands of these cards, they would give you a good deal. I wouldn't expect much for a few thousand though. The guys who get the $4 and $3 specials are the ones who crank out thousands of cards a month, every month. That's their base business that ensures they keep the pipeline full.
  • I guess its this months special for me
    thanks for all the insight

Anyway to piggyback on a 4SC submission. Let's say they pay $3/card and you'll pay $4, there'd be 1000-2000 profit, but likely more trouble than it's worth for them...but ya never know.

    Good Luck.

First off, there is no mean intent to what I am about to say. I am just offering a suggestion and my thoughts on the matter since you asked what you should do.

I understand these are cards you enjoy, but just think of what other great vintage cards or things you could buy/invest in instead of grading a bunch of stuff that is probably not going to rocket in price due to how much of it that was produced? I could see if this was vintage stuff. Instead, they are from an era when the printing presses were running wild. Even you admitted most of them aren't worth grading at $5.50 per. Honestly, it sounds like a lot of money being tossed down the drain.

I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide.

Completely understand your stance on this, and you're giving sound advice. I'm building a 1989 Topps Hockey set and my goal is to have the entire set graded in PSA 10 using only my submission from packs ripped by myself. '89 was the big year I collected as a kid and building this graded set means a lot to me. I know 195 out of the 198 cards are not worth the grading fee alone, and it's going to take multiple attempts with each card, but it's been super fun thus far and that's all that matters to me.

To the OP: please don't take any offense to this, I understand how you feel about wanting a better deal, but if you're worrying over a few cents on each card then this may not be a project you want to pursue. My set is much smaller than the one you're attempting and it has been VERY expensive and will only continue to cost me money. My advise is to build your sets raw and sub a little here and there. Piggyback on specials and/or find a dealer who subs regularly.

    Best of luck!!!!!
  • mullins5 im not saying is going to break me at 5.50 a card but if you send in say two of each that's 15608 cards and if they said 5 dollars a card im saving almost 8000 dollars
I know most the cards return is zero but if I can safe I would like to
and good luck with your quest
    thanks
