Sent in a few for reconsideration

coinsarefuncoinsarefun Posts: 21,749 ✭✭✭✭✭

Three submitted upgraded.

Was a MS67FB, now a MS67+FB

Was an MS63, now a MS64......not a big score but it didn't deserve to sit in a MS63 holder.

Was a MS66, now a MS66+

Curious...why reconsideration with a premium and not regrade with none? The usual reason is to keep the old holder if the grade doesn't change.

I wanted to keep the coins in the old holders if they didn't upgrade.

Plus, sometimes with color it can just be safer to send them in already holdered. I've cracked out more than one coin from older PCGS holders, with good color, only to have them bag.

Regrade poses the risk of losing the current grade.

Great eye to be able to pick out "upgradable" material. I would like to send a couple in but I am not sure of myself...off to post another thread.

You are incorrect in your viewpoint.
ANY submission of a coin in a PCGS holder potentially poses the risk of losing the current grade if, for some reason, the grader(s) disagree when seeing the coin.

HOWEVER, putting some really weird thing happening aside (coin really turned/spotted in the holder/active PVC ate it up/etc), a regrade DOES NOT go lower than the grade it is sent in at. HRH and DW have both addressed this many times of the years.

As Stef has said, she had old holders she didn't want to lose if the coins didn't upgrade. That is perfectly understandable.

Again, in probably 99.999999999999999999% of the cases, a regrade would not risk losing the grade at all (I can't recall one being brought to the attention of this forum since I have been on the forums)

So you are saying if I submit a coin for "reconsideration" I risk losing the grade? image

Stef - were you satisfied losing the older holders for a + upgrade? image
