1916-D BUFF ???

I just bought this 1916-D buff 5 cent. I have since soaked it all day in a bath of hydrogen peroxide and it has lifted some of the crud. It looks like it might be a 2 1/4 feather and a 3 1/2 legged buff. I am going to let it soak overnight here at work and I will rinse it off in the morning. I will then scan some pics. But has anyone seen a reference to this possibility? The coin is a VF coin. Thanks!!!

Tony-See if you can match up the Mint mark position with the picture of the '16-D 3HL in my book. That would be the quickest and easiest way to verify yes or no. I don't think the feather thing is of any significance at all.

Stop playing with it and take some good pictures, someone on these boards will tell you what you have in a heartbeat.

    Skip the hydrogen peroxide

    It is an oxidizer

Once it breaks down, what you have is water with oxygen being released.

Next question, should I send this to NCS to get the black crud off? Can they? Any pics of them doing this? Before and after shots???? Anyone's horror stories or great successes???

    Thanks

I believe the coin is too corroded to benefit from a conservation attempt.
