Charged for ending auctions

Apparently I did not receive the memo but if you end a auction early you will be charged 10% of whatever the ending amount is even though a sale did not take place. I thought my last bill seemed high so I looked threw and saw this and after a call apparently it started this year. Not that I end auctions early all the time but once in awhile it happens. Just a heads up

I believe it's Ebay's way of fighting "off-Ebay" side deals
<< <i>Maybe I misread the policy but I thought it only applies if there are bids on the item. >>
Yes it had bids but I decided to end it after 1 day and was charged 10% of that amount but I had no idea or else I would have let it run.

Do you work for ebay?
IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED

No, I do not work for ebay. Placing an item on ebay, then making an off ebay sale in order to save the ebay fees is cheating. If you want to sell something without fees, then use Craigslist. If you want to use the ebay network of buyers and sellers, then you must pay their fees. IMO, this is no different than hooking yourself up to cable to avoid the monthly charges. If you want a particular service, then you need to pay for it. This is a very simple concept. If you don't like something about the service, including its fees, then go elsewhere. Just because there is a loophole that allows you to cheat does not make it right.

I am not sure what you are saying. In my post, I am not saying that I am perfect, because I am not. I am very far from it. The topic at hand is that ebay is trying to avoid off ebay sales and I am giving my opinion that I agree with it because off ebay sales is a form of cheating ebay.

There are a lot of things in a world that we should feel sorry for. A bunch of highly paid workers in Silicon Valley aren't high on my list.
<< <i>I do feel bad for ebay when people do off ebay sales. I mean John Donahoe's bonus might get cut to $22 million instead of $22.6 million.

So, it's ok to cheat as long as the people you are cheating are "rich"? Where do you draw the line of "rich"? Again, ebay is a service. Most services cost money. If you feel the fee is too high, then don't use their service. Just because there is a loophole for getting out of the fee does not make it right.

Like I said before there are a lot of things in this world that need our sympathy, ebay is not one of them.
<< <i>I understand dontippet's point regarding fair play on ebay. I'm curious: if in the course of doing business on ebay, you manage to exchange off ebay contact information with the seller, do you find it acceptable to do off ebay deals in the future? In effect, that contact would not have been made without ebay's infrastructure. >>
IMO, you have to read ebay's rules on selling off ebay and come to your own conclusions because I don't feel their explanation covers every situation. Your example of future off ebay deals is a great question, that I can't answer by looking at ebay's rules. I've tried to find the answer to that question before. Maybe someone else here can give some insight.

I don't have any issue with off-eBay deals in the future. Does anybody buy from 4SC on eBay more than once?

ebay doesn't own your email account. It doesn't matter what their terms say.
