Serious MACRO Lens Guys - SIGMA Lens Comparison - TY Everyone !!

Guys, last week I posted a question about my photo setup to maximize my photos to try and make them closer to the beautiful TRUEVIEW ones and some of the ones you serious photo guys seem to capture. It became very obvious that buying a new lens was the final step for me to accomplish this because I was using a 40mm MACRO lens.

Based on your guys feedback, it was stated to get a 100mm-200mm lens and quite a few of you recommended the SIGMA Lens as the way to go.

Question:[]
- I see that SIGMA makes (2) styles of lens that can do 100mm+ MACRO photos. They have the 150mm lens and a 50mm-150mm lens. Does anyone have experience using both these types of these lens's and can tell me the difference between them as the price is vastly different. I'm not trying to buy the cheapest lens, but I also do not want to make a back purchase and it does not accomplish the goal of getting beautiful MACRO photo's.

Thanks,

JD

You're interested in the fixed focal lens...prime lens.

Fixed focal macro lens -- they do 1:1...everything else is "faux macro" essentially.

    So get the 150mm SIGMA...here's a photo I took yesterday. f8, 1/15 shutter speed, ISO 200

So the 150mm LENS is the way to go?? Not the adjustable 50mm-150mm, correct?

Good luck with your purchase...Like I've stated, I also have the Sigma 150MM and it is an awesome lens. In the past I have purchased a Sigma 105MM lens on Craigslist. One word of advice: bring your camera with you and make sure that the lens works correctly with your camera. Also make sure that the lens itself is undamaged (scratches, hazing, moldy etc).

I'm sure there are many here with this lens, as it gives you plenty of working space. Good luck with it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "faux macro"...but a bellows set up with a duplicating or enlarging lens can do 4:1 easily, which is far into the "macro" realm...

    Carry on...
