Any Chance this will cross-over to a higher grade?

This is a Jordan rookie I had graded years back. I had purchased a complete set off of Ebay and actually got emails from people telling me it was fake and how could I waste my money on the set. Well, obviously it isn't fake. I was wondering if I could cross-over to a higher PSA grade. Beckett seems to think there is something wrong with the surface, but I can't see anything.

I know the scan of the back seems to show a lighter pink area below the stats, but that is not on the card. The card is in a plastic sleeve inside of the holder and I think that is what is making the light pink area.
So should I try a cross-over or not waste my time?

    Chris,

Great looking card, but I do not think it would grade higher. It appears the bottom corners are a tad soft and it seems graders take pleasure in over scrutinizing this card; JMHO.

I can't tell what the surface issue is, but PSA is notoriously tougher on surface issues than BGS and the latter have the surface a 7.5 . I don't think that bodes well for a higher overall grade.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll just save the $$$ and leave it be. Yeah, that surface grade of 7.5 has me worried

There's always a chance. You just need to decide if it's worth it monetarily.

    Sometimes PSA is generous.

  • I would get it graded with PSA. Looks pretty good to me, other than the "surface issue" I can't see. Even if it "only" pops an 8, you are much better off.

I don't see it getting better than a PSA8 with the T/B centering and slight border chipping, but a straight cross is likely.

i'm seeing what appear to be very light vertical slash marks on the surface on either side of Jordan's right arm. or are they on the holder? i don't see them anywhere else on the card, but that is quite likely your downgrade.

Do you think that after PSA sees the 7.5 for surface, that will make them scrutinize the card more, actually looking for something wrong even if they don't see it? Kind of like, well someone over at Beckett saw it, so there must be something wrong.

This is what I would do. You never know what kind of good/bad mood the grader will be in that day and there is no downside.

Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in Arizona.

The surface grade of 7.5 is due to the black print not lining up with the balance of the card. You can see this clearest in the lower left yellow band that surrounds his name. BGS is much tougher on surface grades than PSA and this black print not lining up is a fairly common issue on the 86/87 cards. It holds back many BGS 9's. my guess is if you cracked it, it would come back PSA 8.5 with an outside shot at a 9 if the grader is lenient on T/B centering that day.

Your only hope for a higher grade would be to crack it.

    ^^^^^^
But I wold not, go for a cross then a bump. You could get burned by cracking.
