My Post Office is the absolute WORST!!!

I can't tell you the amount of trouble I have had with my post office here in Flushing NY. Everyone at work can't believe the stories I tell them. Ive had everything from mail never being delivered, to mail misdelivered, to mail that tracking says was delivered, but actually got delivered 2 days later.
My most recent problem was with a card I purchase off of Ebay coming from Canada. The seller gave me a tracking number and the card was attempted to be delivered on Thursday 10/2. No one was at home so the mail carrier left the "sorry we mised you" card. I immediately called 1-800-ASK-USPS to reschedule the delivery. I could have picked up the card at my Post Office, but parking is almost impossible and the building is surrounded by streets that can only be parked on during certain times of the day. I'd say out of 10 trips there, I get about 7 parking tickets. If anyone is from Flushing NY on these boards, it is the Main Street Post Office and you know what I mean.
So, I put in the redelivery request to have the card delivered 10/4 and get a confirmation number. I get home from work and no card. I give it to Monday and no card. I call 1-800-ASK-USPS again and I'm told they "dropped the ball." They set up a redelivery again for the next day, Tuesday 10/5. I get a confirmation number and specific instructions are left to call before delivery. No call and no card. I call again Tuesday night and I'm told since the card was sent via some special International shipping, it would be sent back to the shipper within 5 days of being sent back to the Post Office due to nondelivery. That 5th day was Tuesday 10/5. So, although the system shows the card is being sent back, I'm told there is a possibility that the card could still be at the Post Office and that it could be redelivered. Of course nothing comes on Wednesday.
So I call Wednesday and file a complaint. I received an email that the complaint is being looked into and that is where we stand with that as of now.
I tried numerous times to call the actual Post Office, but everytime I do, I get a voicemail box and the box is full. This is everytime, not just for this card, everytime! So normaly I send them a fax explaining what is going on and they call me back. I sent a fax this time and no response. It becomes so frustrating that I cannot speak to anyone directly and there is no one to rectify the problem. It seems as they do what they want and there is no policing what they do. What even frustrates me more is that the people at 1-800-ASK-USPS can't call my local PO because they have the same phone number that I have and they can't get through either. I was told they communicate through the computer by logging cases in the system and my PO is supposed to read those and take care of the situation. Obviously no one is reading anything.
This is the second time this PO has messed up on rescheduling a package delivery. I spoke to the seller and he is looking out for the card. He will reship it again and I told him I will pay for shipping. I think the PO needs to reimburse me. I'll take a '52 Topps Mantle PSA 8. I really want a 10, but I'm not greedy.
Sorry, just venting!!!!!!!!

But again, not all are the same. Sorry to hear that you're having issues. You just got to stay on them.
To begin with, I cant afford and neither can the buyer to pay insurance for small dollar cards. Insurance is stupid to begin with...I am paying for them to do their job, if they are incompetent, then they should pay for the mistake, not me. I dont pay grill insurance to make sure my steak is cooked right when I go to a restaurant, so why pay for them to do their job right.

Casey,
Isn't there a $200 deductible for any claim filed with Collect Insure insurance?
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

There has been some confusion about this, possibly because some have confused the individual vs dealer insurance policies.
My policy ($20,000 cap for $95 annually) has the following:
Up to $200 coverage for mail with no sig. confirmation. No deductible, but $50 minimum to file claim.
Up to $2500 coverage for mail with sig. confirmation. No deductible.
Up to $20,000 coverage for mail with sig. confirmation and special mailing (i.e. Registered Mail and a few other specialty mailing types). No deductible.
Plus coverage for loss/theft from my home.

Thanks for the info, Casey, but why would anyone file a claim for up to $200 in coverage if it costs $50 to file the claim? It would cost less than 1/10th of that to simply purchase postal insurance.

I may have written that oddly. Filing is free. The claim must meet a minimum threshold of $50 to be filed. Anything above $50 has no deductible.
With respect to your PO.....have you considered getting a PO box or shipping items to your workplace?
You could always go down to the PO to speak with the Postmaster and kindly tell them what you think of the business he is in charge of. I stress kindly.
Another comment/idea......have you ever provided a Christmas bonus to your letter carrier? I give mine $100 every year and she bends over backwards for me. I am lucky I guess as the experience with my carrier is probably not the norm.
Another thing I found to be good with the carrier = don't give them a stack of things regularly to pick up from your doorstep to get in the mail for you. They look at their job as a one way road of delivering the mail so giving them an additional step at of posting your stuff at the end of the day just gives them additional reason to hate on your items.
Last thing....if they leave a delivery slip in my box, I go to the PO the next day to pick up the item as nothing good can come out of your letter carrier attempting delivery twice.
Hope this helps - good luck to solving your problem as a rough and tumble letter carrier is not a good thing.

I have found that in doing so, that many times, dropping off the package at the post office, that it doesnt get scanned until it reaches it's next scheduled destination. For this reason alone, I prefer to personally take it to the post office, although in the last case, the clerk DID scan the item, so I was at a loss as to why it showed as never scanned.
<< <i>I ship between 1,500 and 2,500 priority packages a year and am amazed at how good the system actually works. I get a fair amount of breakage as I am shipping fragile stuff (glass) but on the whole, they do a pretty good job.

The problem with my area is we rarely and I mean rarely have the same mail carrier more than a month at a time. There was a time when I gave a Christmas Bonus (back in the day), but without a regular mail carrier we no longer do. Delivery to work is something I use quite often, but some sellers only ship to Paypal confirmed addresses. I never give my mail carrier anything to pickup. I either drop itin the box or go to a different PO so send it out.
As for getting a PO box. Do you know if it has to be a box in my PO or can it be in any PO?
Thanks for you ideas

So I get home and no package and no sorry we missed you card in the mail box. I call the USPS and I'm told they tried to deliver at 12:00pm, but no one was home. I said no card was left so how would I know? Again, no answer. I ask where is the card now? It at you local post office. I go there this morning at 8:00am and I'm first on line for package pickup. I finally get the package and my card.
I can't believe I had to go through all that. I think I'm going to take the advice of a member here and get a PO box.
What sellers mean by shipping to confirmed addresses only is they will only ship to the address that is provided with your Paypal payment. To be eligible for seller protection the seller must ship to the address provided with your Paypal payment. It doesn't matter what address you select to put in there, if the seller ships to the address that Paypal confirms it's okay to ship to then the seller is protected. Simply select your work address to ship to when making payment and you won't have a problem with any sellers.

Good to know, Thanks
