I would like Heritage to answer this question!

amwldcoinamwldcoin Posts: 11,269 ✭✭✭✭✭
Why do you close the internet only auctions so quickly given the possibilities of internet lag times?

I was participating in the live internet auction tonight. Consignors might want to listen. I won most of the coins I bid on in a simultaneous group of 30-40 coins. The 2 coins I really wanted I never had the chance to bid on!!!! I have an excellent internet connection and the 2 coins I really wanted would have sold for several increments above what they sold for if I had been able to bid!!!! Funny how the coins I would not go higher on languished waiting for another bid and what I consider a couple...1 in particular the best coins in the group skipped right buy me.

Conspiracy????

Edit to clarify my question!

The live Heritage auctions can be a bit challenging over the internet. I always place a proxy bid on the coins I really want, never have had a problem that route.

LOL I was participating in the live part...no 2 hours! This is a response to the other replies also.

I won most of the lots I bid on. The 2 lots that skipped through went for 60% of what I would have paid! To all those that say bid early....then what is the point of having the live auction?

Technology is evolving so the must have coins can be at least backed up with a proxy bid.

one certainly needs to be on their toes when bidding online at heritage live. I do not recall getting snapped on an auction because of a site problem in at least 3 years, though I only bid live on a handful of coins per sale.

Agree with others put in a proxy, they don't just push it up because you have a nondisclosed early bid . that's nonsense I have won coins with early proxy's at a much lower amount where my bid still had thousands left

I think the problem might have been internet connection lag time, even with super high speed which I have here at home also, bidding one lot after another, there is going to be glitches in processing time

I had a problem a few months ago and had to up the speed here to the max available, which is quite costly

Was it that you were unable to place a bid on those two lots ?

Were you able to place a pre-auction bid before it went live ?

If you were able to actually able to place a bid, were you unable
    to raise your bids ?

Did you go over your credit limit if you won so many lots ?
I have ( at least for me ) a substantial bidding limit. I have
on occasion hit my limit and the Heritage system wouldn't
allow me to place any more bids. We all get carried away at
    times.

the replies were meant to help you win the coins you want. if you want to not win so you can come here to complain then you should keep doing things the way you are doing things.

Keets I understand people are trying to help and I have placed proxy bids before. I hope no one thinks the suggestions posted are taken in a derogatory manner by me!

Mike....as far as I know I don't have a limit! I've spent well into 5 figures in a single auction before.

It just seemed so ironic to me. I know you know what I was bidding on. They were all either back to back or had a coin or 2 in between I didn't want to bid on. Out of 40 or so coins in the series I was able to bid on 18 of the 20 I wanted and won most! image The other 2 I wanted to bid on went from the lot before straight to lot closing with no chance at bidding. Those 2 were the only lots in the series I didn't have the opportunity to place a bid on!

I think the solution to this is to add a couple of seconds to each lot before it closes. I know this would extend the whole auction probably an hour but that should eliminate most of the lag time problem. It amazes me how fast they fly through many of these internet only lots. I am aware of this and have my trigger kocked and ready to fire the split second the lot I want opens for bidding!

    That I agree with.

    Keets I understand

then the only explanation for your resistance to placing your highest bid seems to be that you enjoy the thrill of "Live" bidding which brings with it the "Agony" of defeat and the frustration you've expressed. I see no reason for changing the way things are, but it seems to be the current mindset of many, many Americans that the needs of an individual are more important than the group.

He AM remember it may not be your speed that matters but how HAs servers handle the incoming data on the whole. You could have gotten cought up in their system lag. Part of the reason to partisipate in a truly live auction is the thrill of bidding, just like going to a live automotive auction.

the 1st coin I was willing to bid 50% higher and the 2nd coin probably 75% higher! I would say more as I have had past experiences from the other side of the action which cost me plenty!

The subject of this thread states that you'd like Heritage to answer a question, but you don't pose a question in the first post. Are you implying that Heritage is able to configure their auction so that Heritage Live is less responsive and/or the hammer falls quicker during select lots, and you'd like them to answer whether or not they'd jeopardize their reputation by rigging auctions?

You are quite correct! I just figured most could figure out my question. This is my question:

Why do you close the internet only auctions so quickly given the possibilities of internet lag times?

I think they close when they should close according to the clock, it sounds like you should be contacting your ISP or upgrading to something faster. your gripe is with them, not Heritage which works just fine.image

I was successful in winning a 1903-S Morgan Dollar in today's Heritage Auction, via placing a Proxy Bid that was executed during the live auction.

I was pleased to acquire the coin, and not have to sit through the live auction session while I was doing other things.

Exactly. The thrill of sitting at the screen, counting down the final seconds of an auction ( at one time, quite thrilling indeed !) has seriously faded....Proxy bids on Heritage,
