Why is this coin not CAM?

What is the reasoning for this coin not being PR62 CAM?

FullCameo · October 10, 2014 1:55PM

Given the pic, it should be cam. So either the grader doesn't know what cam is, or the pics have been manipulated.

My exact thoughts, I was going to bid but I decided not to (even now there's still 4 minutes left at auction). I'm going to pass as I smell some trickery, something is up here!

Go with your gut. Good call.

Looks like the cam is on the obverse but weak on the reverse.

Many sellers just put a black piece of paper behind their camera when they're imaging their proofs. We had a big fight over this practice on the forum some years ago, and only some of us thought it was unethical to do so. However, anything goes on eBay, and I just expect all those black & white cameos to have less contrast when they're delivered. This particular coin looks like it has weak contrast on the reverse, and maybe just missed the CAM designation.

Looks to have some cleaning, which probably hazed the fields quite a bit, depite them still having some reflection/contrast. I don't see a cameo even if the coin looks exactly in hand as it does in pics.

The reverse.

<< <i>The reverse. >>

Especially so with the lettering. Must have cameo on the lettering for the full coin to warrant CAMEO.

I agree with the others it is the reverse that is holding it back and they most likely did the black paper trick as you can see those die lines very strongly and it throws the image way off.

lasvegasteddy · October 10, 2014 3:27PM

could be cartwheel luster in the fields between letters and rim

could be too many hairlines in the mirror on the fields too

could be one more submission away is all after a bold crack out

CoinWW2 · October 11, 2014 3:51AM

Still looks CAM to these old eyes.

djdilliodon · October 11, 2014 4:17AM

To my eyes the devices look to have plenty of frost to warrant the cameo designation but the mirrors may not be deep enough.
