1911 Mexico Long Ray Caballito Peso

I have been following the Caballito Peso at auction and elsewhere for nearly 3.5 years, looking for one that didn't break the bank but also had a good strike and good luster. I finally pulled the trigger on one this week, and I'm quite happy with it. The design is one of my all time favorite 20th Century coin designs with a horse motif. The only competition are the Italian quadriga coins that I adore from roughly the same time in the 19-teens.

Feel free to guess the grade. I won't be offended either way, as grades on labels are secondary to owning a coin that makes me smile image

Cheers, Brandon

I like these as well. Just a terrific design. As for the grade, it is a little tough to see what could hold it back. I would start at 64 with 65 being quite possible

One can tell from the photos alone that it has really nice luster. MS64 was my first impression.

    65 looks reasonable to me.

It's possibly a 65 in a 64 NGC holder, they seem strict (or lazy) on these, NICE coin, perfect start on a 7220 set!

I just like saying "caballito" over and over with an Antonio Banderas accent...but that coin is really nice too. image

The word for horse - caballo - is pronounced with the "y" sound (cabayo) as is typical of Spanish vocabulary. So is caballito pronounced "cabayito?"

I have one of these but I'm not happy with it. Polished. Thought I would like it enough, but really not crazy about it from day one. Afraid I will never be able to unload it. Time will tell. The design is GREAT. The polished appearance is NOT. image

    That is a beauty !
A little bit prooflike maybe ? I'll go 64 ( since you didn't break the bank...image ) but the look is 65, 66 in my opinion.

Thanks to all for the kind words and for the guesses of grade. NGC graded this coin MS62 -- I grade it MS64. I was looking for one of these since early 2011 that had a full strike and could be had for less tha $300. It seems the only way to find one is to be very patient and wait for one to come along that is undergraded by a couple points. image
