How hard to find is a colorful 1948 P and D in MS? Ive been searching my typical locations and haven't come across many. Id like to have a pair for a registry set Im working on.

I think there are plenty colorful 48 p & d Franklin's out there but I haven't seen many nice color coins for sale lately. Maybe prices are low and people just don't want to sell pretty coins at low levels ?

Bingo, sort of. Most 48 double mint set coins with color tend to be brown/yellow and a bit dull. Wouldn't want them. Colorful pieces can be found, but there haven't been many showing up in the market for several years. A few nice 48-Ds have surfaced. The 48-P is harder than then the average P mint coin to find with nice color. Most D Franklins are even harder, and the 48-D is up there as one of the toughest D-mints to find with attractive toning.

I think that the following has been true with Franklins for the past 15 years - common dates abound with colorful toned coins appearing frequently, giving the impression that all dates (mostly double mint set dates) can be found that way. It just isn't so. So the tougher dates with nice toning just don't come onto the market because they aren't appreciated.
Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.
