Recent Mantle auctions from PWCC

Several high end Mantle auctions ended last night with a few of them having some very high sale prices.

1958 PSA 8 Mantle - sold for $3500. Clean example with nice corners and good centering.

1957 PSA 8 Mantle - sold for $5459. Very well centered high end example that is one of the nicest out there in the last 6 months. Appears to be a mint card at first glance from a centering and corner perspective, and only a tiny smudge on the upper right corner keeps it from grading higher - newer holder so little chance of a bump.

1956 PSA 8 Mantle - sold for $4851. This was a nice example and described as having 4 mostly mint corners which I would agree with, and said it was 50/50 centering all around - nice top to bottom centering but with the naked eye it is apparent that it is not 50/50 side to side. They touted it as being the finest 8 they have ever sold and that everything about the card is a nm/mt+ designation - hinting at a bump. I would think that with a new label the only chance for a bump is to resubmit it.

Overall a very nice batch of results for them, and no question they seem to get high end prices and results with their auctions.

I was surprised by the Sep. 8th. auction of a 1964 #50 Mantle in PSA 8.5. Final price was $3717.67.

Saw that one as well. Looks like folks are willing to pay for well centered nice examples, and the 1957 was sweet - the 1956 was nice but centering was not 50/50 and $4800+ was rich when they normally go for $3300-3800.
