ebay bidding

Example:

I want to bid on a card. The highest bid is $44.00 with bid increments of $1.00.

I bid $45.00. I immediately increase my maximum bid to $65.00.

On the listing it still says: "Enter a custom max bid of US $46.00 or more"

Someone else bids $46.00. The auction ends.

Do I pay $47.00 or $65.00?

This feels like a trick question.

You never pay more than a bid increment above the 2nd highest bidder.

    That's been my understanding.

You pay $47. Like someone else said, you pay one increment above the second highest bidder. So, the second highest bidder is driving the actual final auction ending amount. You could bid $6,500, and as long as the second highest bidder was $46, you win at $47. I bid somewhere around $140 on an item once and won it for something like $17.

  • Please note if the other bidder has also entered a max bid the ending cost will be the next bid above there max.
However In the event you bid 65.01 max FIRST and they bid 65.00 max you would win at 65.01, you can not be charged more
then your max bid but any amount above there max (if you had a prior Max bid entered) would be good enough to win.

The only twist to your situation is if the seller had a reserve on the card of say $60. If you enter $65 then your bid will automatically go from $45 to $60, and then $61 will be the next bid increment available to other bidders.

This is how I would have answered the question. It is a relatively simple concept. Good luck.
