There are sooooo many 76-S T2 CnClad PR69DCAM IKEs that are just as good if not better than that one.

1976-S Ty 2 Ikes in high quality are night and day with TY 1 coins. The TY 1 coins (from the 1975 proof sets) are much more difficult to locate in spectacular quality than the Ty 2 coins (from 1976 proof sets). Even though the pop now shows 1 and 1 between the two different coins in the 70 grade at PCGS, I would not be the least bit surprised to see more TY 2 coins achieve the 70 grade over the next 6-12 months. I noticed that the Price Guide just listed the TY 2 at the same price the TY 1 fetched at Heritage a few years back. While that was certainly easy to do, I do not believe the two coins will stay on par with each other as the coins are so darn different from each other. In fact, I believe the 76 TY 2 in super quality is much closer in difficulty to the 1977-S clad than the 76 TY 1. Of course, the 76 TY 2 is worth substantially more than the $3,500-$5,000 that a 77 is worth as a much higher pop. Exactly how much more we will see in a few weeks.

If the coin in the Great Collections is any indicator, you may be right but IMO, that's not a 70 and its not a DCAM either.

Just look at the fields and make your own best decision.



You can certainly see some reflections of the slab surface, like out in front of the forehead, but I'm not seeing that in the stuff around and in the date.



The reverse also has a lot of reflections but there are some which do not appear to be reflections.

I'd wager to say that had I submitted this coin, I might very well be looking at a PR69DCAM.

But that's just my opinion. Others may vary.

In all fairness, it's very possible those are just reflections on the holder, and not on the coin. Really impossible to say from an image taken inside the plastic.

I have never figured out how the "starburst" fields affect PCGS grading.

Regardless of the technical merits, PCGS is saying that this coin is better than all the '69s. For those familiar with Proof Ikes, is that true?

Lee. As I think you know, I try not to brag about coins I own and especially not for coins that cost less than $5-$30 each. That said, I believe my son Justin and I probably have the nicest quality 11 pc. set of high grade proof Ike dollars out there. Monster DCAM and "flawless" specimens selected from the better part of 50,000++ specimens over about a 12 year period. This year, I expect to see another 5,000-10,000 specimens and there might be a coin or two in there that become a candidate for our top sets. It is a labour of love carefully examining all of these proof Ikes and we have actually built a few of these amazing proof sets now. One day in the future (perhaps when interest in the series picks up a bit) collectors can set up a "showdown" at Long Beach of the top couple proof Ike registry sets and everyone can "show their stuff". I would love for you to see our proof Ikes. Also, when Justin masters his photography skills (and he is getting close) he can photograph these coins for everyone to enjoy. John (DLRC) may remember Justin as he met him up in Oakland with me seven or eight years ago when he was a young teenage boy.

While I have placed a number of amazing quality PR70DCAM Ikes over the years, I do not recall ever seeing a coin I liked better than the coins in our top set. So, obviously, it would be highly unlikely I would conclude this particular 1976-S Proof 70DCAM was nicer than the top couple coins in our sets. On a related note, I was the first owner of the 1976-S TY 1 PR70DCAM Ike and while it was a nice coin, the top couple 76-S TY 1 coins in our sets we liked even more!
