Oh geez, my free submission expired

Has this ever happened to anyone? I knew I had my free 15 for being a member, and thought when I renewed my membership it was covered until November, but I renewed at the National last year and it was only a year from that. I had misplaced my form and when I found it saw it expired on 8/1.

So now did I drop 189 bucks for some magazines? Is it worth calling customer service and asking for a mulligan? I don't submit cards very often, so I had been carefully putting together the ones I wanted to submit for this one submission. (And over the year I didn't even get anything super great).

Really frustrated at myself right now.

I did the same thing. I called PSA, but they told me I was SOL. I was really surprised they did not honor it.

I am surprised that PSA is legally allowed to let it expire.
Similar to a gift card, which cannot expire five years from issuance in most states. I know this isn't a gift card, but same idea. The free subs are a part of the package you paid for and should be honored.
Perhaps not for eternity, but maybe five years would be appropriate.
To let renewal subs expire so soon is lousy.
    Bad form, PSA

I've had the same thing happen and they wouldn't honor it. They take a hard-line stance on that. I'm not sure if it falls under the gift card category. If so, since I live in CA and PSA is based in CA, it would certainly fall under the no expiration legal clause. I'd give them a call though. Mine were for min size rejects. They may treat it differently for membership renewal credits.

I would think it's all about being able to recognize revenue and how long they have to keep the credits on the books. I would view these as more of a coupon than a gift card and am unaware of any coupons that have to be honored for 5 years.
  • Don't beat yourself up over it. When my membership expires, I usually only renew after I have enough cards for both the freebies and minimum sub requirements. It stinks, but I can't blame PSA if you've had a whole year to use them.

I guess the part that bothers me is that I renewed in 2012 in November, so I just assumed when I renewed in August 2013, the free submission would carry through November of this year. I don't plan on renewing as I don't sub enough cards to make it worth my while, and if I wanna sub I may be able to piggy back on someone.

I'll still contact them, but I appreciate the heads up and look forward to bad news. Probably won't be a returning member anytime soon, I enjoy collecting a lot, but don't think I have the eye to make subs worth while and the ones I would probably send in I don't think would be worth more than 50-100 bucks graded depending on what they came out as, but was looking forward to seeing if my eye has improved at all.

    Thanks guys. Go Pirates/Royals.

I'd call anyway - your situation is a little different in that you still had an active membership until Nov 2013 when you renewed in August. I'd also expect that the voucher could be used for a year after the new membership kicked in. They may still say no, but its worth a shot.

I would just send it in as is and hope they don't look at the expiration. Then, if they do notice, the cards are already in their hands and they're more likely to make a deal. Conniving 101 right there.
