Auction wackiness

This is a small scale one but I wonder how many larger scale action items get bidded up past the cost of the same item available on the same sellers website.

One thing to keep in mind is the seller nets the same amount essentially on this sale with the EBAY fees factored in and the amount of people who search for cards on EBAY vs. dealer specific sites is miles apart.

This is really a tough example to use because at this price point there is so little at risk.

What kind of price range are you asking about?

Was wondering if anyone has seen, in example a $1500 1978 baseball box or whatever available on the website, auction out for 2k That kind of thing.

There were loads of threads a few months ago when the unopened market was exploding where this kind of scenario was routine.

I think it has found a level of price consolidation so it would be less likely to be happening as much on items in this price range.

Lower dollar items where one can laugh off $5 it is just part of the market. Yes it is 25% higher but in absolute terms it is $5. At the price level of several thousand more emphasis on investment is placed and the margins become drastically more important.

My LCS has these for $5 a box. I found them when he let me go through the back room and find any junk wax that I wanted.

I saw a box of 1975 Topps sold by a member on this site (BBG) go for about $500 more than one they had on BBCE a few years ago
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
