Question about die cracks and Mercury Dimes,

Hello Everyone,

It's been awhile since I've been on here. My wife and I had a baby almost a year ago, and feeling the pinch to my extra spending. I've never stopped looking at coins, or browsing here. Just curious, I am working on a Mercury Dime set focussing on MS 65's with FB's. I have a question. Do die cracks on coins add to the overall value? Or take away? I found a really nice coin that would fit my set well with an amazing die crack on it, and I feel like it adds to the character of the coin. Though I am curious about everyone's opinion on die cracks too.

Thanks everyone!!!
Jeff

Even the lettering, "In God We Trust" is heavily smudged, and even missing some letters due to the heavy crack present on this MS 65 FB coin.

It depends on the collector and the series. Die cracks, erosion, excessive lapping, etc. are more appreciated with early minted coins. Much later, they are more a curiosity than a collectible die state. Certainly there are buyers for both.

+1 and I would say that you seem to like it so if it fits the set and you like it that is what is most important. I find die cracks very interesting and enjoy the look.
