All Sports Specialists, or Card Universe Masters, or maybe Precision Iconic Sportscard Specialists, all have a nice ring to them.

I remember one of those being auctioned off 4-5 years ago and it went for less than 5k. This might be from that auction but no way he's getting that much $.

I don't fault anybody for trying to start their own company.

Unfortunately, it'd be tough to compete with the TGCs.

    Fortunately, the TGCs rock image

consider all the fun we could have if we owned our grading company exclusive of all other regulations, patents, copyrights, and just promoted good ol' fashioned folklore.

who wouldn't want the opportunity to be known as the Officially Titled(!) "GRADER OF DEATH".

Kinda off topic.. But is there a grading company for records? There prob is and I just don't know about them because I don't really collect vinyl but thought there could be a market for one.
Scans of most of my Misc rookies can be found <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.collectors.com/m...y&keyword1=Non%20major">here

I feel exactly the opposite. I think card company's along with their gazillion "special limited edition of 500,000 inserts" in the 90's is what killed this hobby. Getting an insert of any kind back in the day use to feel special. Now its like the equivalent of opening a pack of 1988 Topps and finding a Dave Winfield all-star card. I truly have no idea what the hell I am even looking at these days if its not autographed.

I don't know if it took the hobby away, That was done in the late eighties by adults and businessmen, but it sure created lots brain dead collectors.

TPGers are fine, but none of them trump the CEO and the head grader of death in charge
of my collection. He has complete control and the final say in all matters concerning the cards.

    who is that person? ME

All to often we see people making decissions based solely on these TPGing labels, which are nothing
more an educated guess of and hourly employee. Now if the said label carried the name of the actual grader......
That would be a game changer.

Meaning..... Do I prefer a Greg Morris Card graded MINT or say the crap Burbank sports cards and the countless other
crap ebay sellers and what they call MINT.

TPGing may have narrowed the subjectivity of grading a tad, but rest assured that the inconsistancies from one grader to the next employed
at these companies are still very obvious. Too many collectors seem to let these TPGing companies dictate to them. When in fact, like most collectors
on this board, are every bit as skilled and capable as most TPG empolyees. Money and Profit are what drives TPGing, Not necessarily accurate and consistant grading.

Once ya get enough brains washed, its much easier to get the masses to drink the Kool-Aid.

Be the Head Grader, CEO an Master of your own collection first and foremost, before blindly giving up that right to the for profit groups.

I enjoy a nice ungraded raw collection as much as the next guy but I can't see how it can be argued that TPG companies (legit ones) have hurt the hobby. I for one think they have helped it regain some of it's past success. I'd say 100-500 packs have done more to harm the hobby than anything.

    Very nicely said! image

I came back into the hobby because of graded cards as did a lot of collectors. I think, in a way, they may have saved the hobby. Upper Deck is who ruined the hobby for me

I'd be an autograph slabber, not card grader and would call my company.

    TFA-The Final Authority
    Buying US Presidential autographs

Sonic welders for holders don't come cheap.

This one is on sale on ebay for over 17K.

Capitol Grading is one of my all-time favorite "garage" grading companies:
