The show, entitled “Rick’s U.S. Coin Show”, airs Thursdays and Fridays from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm PST and Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm PST. That is some serious time to spend at one shot on TV talking about coins.... Must be making a killing someplace.
<< <i>Makes me real sad I don't have Dish to watch. >>
It's on DirecTV, channel 222 I believe. I saw it when I surfed over to 221 to watch a football game yesterday. Looked fairly typical of the genre. A bunch of white coins being sold at about 30-50% over what you'd pay elsewhere. I think I saw common S-mint Morgans in NGC 67 being offered for $1100+.
Gee I guess I will have to cut down on my GTA Online time to watch this. Would not want to miss out on paying big bucks on some PF clad dimes from the 70's.
RT has done some wonderful work in the past in pushing frosted, high end Modern Proof Coins into the limelight, then he followed that with the same effort on Franklin and Kennedy Half-Dollars. his books have been both informative and helpful for me and many others if I judge feedback correctly. his "Achilles Heel" would seem to be his marketing approach which takes the Buy low, Sell high to new extremes!!! I avoided purchasing from his website early on because the prices seemed high and I was uncertain so I did a little research while I waited. it was time well spent, saved me money and educated me at the same time. to date I have never been able to purchase from him even though he has some choice coins for sale. I met him at the Pittsburgh ANA several years ago, he seemed like a fine gentleman who was truly interested in coins and received my "Thank You" with genuine appreciation.
as final comment to anyone unfamiliar with his website or online pictures, his photographer tends to employ "the lampshade effect" with diffused lighting which gives coins an unnatural appearance and tends to enhance contrast.
<< <i>As long as Rick will buy his stuff back for what he charges, then its alright by me since it is a free country. >>
As long as people do things the way you want them to, it's a free country? Huh?
I bought Rick's 1997 Franklin book several years back and have been enlightened for the better by reading it. I know he does much more than Franklins. He bought a nicely toned SMS Cent from me on eBay about 5 years back. Then I noticed one of the colorful Morgans I consigned and sold on Teletrade ended up in his inventory several years back.
Yes, a 5-hour time slot also caught my attention. That is almost unheard of. This is the first I've heard of this television show. Heh, when I first read the title I thought Rick had his own coin show, like physically in a meeting hall with all 40 dealer tables belonging to him.
I have existed since the creation of this world and will exist until its end. Only my form will change. For these 80 human life years, I have the benefit of having a functioning body and consciousness. I will not waste this opportunity.

No matter what you collect you need to do some homework. If you don't then you aren't going to know that some PR-69 cameo proof dimes from the '70's are very common and can easily be found in raw proof sets and some aren't. You'll end up with all the common ones at what seem like low prices and few or none of the better ones. When you go to sell your coins you'll find no motivated buyers because it is collectors who comprise the support for prices and collectors already have the coins you want to sell.
Collectors who haven't looked think nice cameo SMS nickels are plenty common enough and there must be millions set aside for higher prices but those who have looked know that full cameo coins are very few and very far between. This will never change because few were made and they aren't being made at all any longer.
Nobody even cared about any of these coins until the late-'70's and by this time it was even more difficult to find them. Even today the cameos and Gems are still out there in nearly the percentages as in 1968 but there are far fewer sets to check. Of course this doesn't apply as much to the SMS's since most of these have been searched.
Is it just me or do all coin collectors think the business cost him nothing to run and he is working for free???
Come on guys---you don't work for free, do you??? Wake up and smell the coffee >>
That's not hat I am saying and you know it! If he's getting $395.00 for a PR69DCAM 1974-S Kennedy Half with his ECC Sticker then he'd better be willing to buy it back for at least 15% below what he charges. Otherwise, that sticker ain't worth shat.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
