Anyone ever seen a PSA 10 that was damaged inside the holder?

I bought a 1998 SP Authentic Paul Pierce PSA 10 and the card itself has bubbles on the surface and what looks like water damage on the edges. It is also discolored. What could do this? Extreme heat?

Flood damage? Did you see pics of the card before you bought it?

I have a PSA 10 with a damaged corner. It was a cross over so I just assume it was damaged in the process. I didn't notice it until a few months later and was like WOW.

  • I had one with what looked like water damage.
    Lots with dinged corners.

How often do graded cards become damaged after they have already been holdered? I often wonder about this very topic.

  • I could see water damage as a possibility. I think most corner dings happen while encapsulating.

I have some 1993 and 1996 topps Finest basketball that look like they are turning yellow and white in certain places. Not sure if it's the cover that is causing this or not.

    Here's a PSA 10 I got back from a recent sub.

    Obviously, accidents happen.

I've seen a bunch of Kelloggs cards that cracked after holdering.

So if U email PSA and show them this pics will they pay for their damage of the card?

They should at least refund the card submission fee.

Theoretically, they should refund the retail price of the card in graded condition. Is that correct?

I thought it was unfortunate that the card came back in the condition that it did, but I never bothered to contact PSA to see if they would do anything about it. The card was sent in through one of our group subs as well, so I wasn't the one that actually sent it in, and I didn't want to bother the member that was kind enough to let me in on the sub in the first place to be the one to contact them.

So I chalked it up to bad luck. Besides, it was a population 1, so how would've I put a price on it anyway??

    Thoughts??

  • I had a 1991 Silver Star Hologram Cal Ripken, Jr. PSA 10 that I sent in that was damaged. They re-holdered it as a PSA 6 and are sending me a $30 voucher.
