  • Tough one. Doesn't look like any of mine.
The. Again, if it was fake, would probably look less dis-similar.
Was he in a rush when he signed?
  • I'd be a little worried about that one. Not use to seeing that little loop at the end of his name

That Don Mattingly autograph appears to be atypical to me.

  • Don looks fine and the Mattingly I have seen a few with the upward finish.

It doesn't get much better than that!
  • So did I get a good deal if this looks good to you guys?

  • You did great! I had it on my watch list, but didn't want to mention it earlier. It was actually listed last week too and ended without a winner which I was shocked by. I'm trying to stay focused and not buy every good deal I see just because it's a good deal. I have gotten some pretty sweet prices on nice raw Mattingly autos in the past, but getting one for less than six bucks.....you stole that card! Good for you!

  • Thank you! Don is def my favorite player, especially being a kid in the 80s, now I just wish it was him instead of girardi managing that team. I'm looking forward to getting this in the mail soon. I'll scan it when it arrives

  • I went on a mattingly spending spree this week. A few raw, (85 donruss, 84 fleer, 85 topps). a PSA 7 84 donruss I should scan that one, it looks way better than a 7.

  • I also think finding consistency in Mattingly's signature is hard. No matter which of the many variations of his auto you look at there are always some inconsistencies. What I look for are positive characteristics and if I see enough of them then I feel the auto is good.

Here are two examples of what I'm talking about. I went to Yankees spring traning in '94 but I wasn't collecting then so I didn't bring anything to get signed. Don was signing so I asked a gentleman and his son who had a stack of Yanks cards they were trying to get signed if I could buy a few of Don's card from them. They were nice enough to give me these 3 which I got signed over the course of the next week. As you can see they are not that consistent. The T's are all different, and the swoosh at the end varies on all of them too.

The baseballs in the bottom pic were signed one after another in winter of 2013. The biggest inconsistency is that some of the M's connect to the rest of his name, and some do not.

Those are some great exemplars. The cards particularly appear to compare with it rather well. Thanks for posting them.
