Whats the secret to winning a PWCC auction??

Holy cow. I bid strongly on a string of Jeter cards last night and was crazily outbid on every card. And to top it off, played cards last night and only won three hands all night. Losing night all around...

Sorry, just venting... image

  • The good thing about life. You put your head down and wake a new day with new cards dealt each day. Up to you if you want to play. I feel your pain.
  • the secret to winning the PWCC auction is to win the card before it ever gets to the PWCC auction.

just set a budget and stick to it

i've won a few from them in the past year, and also gotten crazily outbid same as you

i don't really mind the losing when i know it was way more than i wanted to pay - just part of the game really
  • Sometimes I will sit and watch their auctions and probstein's auctions close to see the snipes that come in....incredible stuff when a big ticket item more than doubles in the last 10 seconds.

While some would say I need to get a life, I would say I already have one - and no, its not FASC either.

Just bid a record-setting price (higher than ever seen before in VCP) and you have a decent shot at it

Why is it difficult to win their auctions?

I was planning on bidding on one of their items.

They tend to command high prices because they're:

    a) reputable

    b) well-advertised

    c) customer friendly with nice presentation

    +1
Also, the high end cards get nice write ups and they have great scans........very professional.
  • Crazy $! I have won a few and have paid dearly for the listings. Fortunately they have all had great eye appeal and are pristine examples of the grade. As a seller you can use these auctions to your advantage. Your Buy it Now price will seem like a bargain and generally sell quickly after the PWCC auctions are completed. Definately frustrating as a consumer.

  • How about a 75 Brett PSA 9 selling for $2324 on Thursday from PWCC. Nuts!

  • When you bid through them, you have to be prepared to bid big or go home (or log off) lol

Do they take any steps to ensure consignors are not bidding up their own cards?
If people can do this with impunity it would probably make it difficult to win an auction as a bargain.

Well, apparently my "budget" was short tonight - think I bid on 50 auctions or so and got none, and was only next highest bidder on 3 I think

I won a few cards (must haves IMO) tonight but had to a place I didn't want to go. I will say this, when I sell something I have upgraded, PWCC rarely fails to disappoint me.

I've been the under bidder more times than I care to remember.........I've asked Brent to let me know if the winning bidder doesn't pay........but the winners have always paid on the cards I wanted.
