I sold them through a consignor that did his usual good job.
Some did well, but somehow many of the tougher issues ended MUCH lower than numerous recent sales on Ebay. I'm talking highly desirable issues. Black refractors, mid '90s artist proofs, tough rookie issues, low serial #'d Finest gold refractors, etc. I was very surprised that it happened with so many cards.
Does Ebay ever have hiccups where bidders can't see the auctions for awhile? Not trying to gripe here, I know that the market fluctuates and any time you do an auction there's a chance it won't do well. I'm just trying to understand what may have happened so I can keep my sanity.

<< <i>Im thinking that ebay screwing with snipe services has a lot to do with it. >>
Wow, really? I haven't heard anything about that. Anyone been affected by this?

I havent either. Anyone got any details?
<< <i>Jeter prices have been all over the board on his scarcer issues. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme of reason. Similar limited cards may sell for $500 one day and $200 the next, or vice versa. I think the market on his cards will be very fickle over the next few weeks then should stabilize after the season. >>
Sure, that's probably part of the issue. It's just that it was with so many cards, with such low hammer prices.
They call me "Pack the Ripper"
<< <i>You are an honest person who doesn't shill their own items. >>
Is shilling that prevalent?
Thanks for the input so far.
1. fickle market on retirement season. same thing w/ mariano last year
2. ebay blocking snipe services (at least temp)
3. when did they end? this past weekend w/ football season starting? doesn't really matter if it was thurs/fri/sat/sun/mon night this past week....
4. and kudos for this, ya didn't shill yourself.
perfect storm.
<< <i>sounds like several components wrapped up into the perfect storm...

This storm hurt a bit. I know this happens to lots of people, but I had put a lot of time and money into the collection and enjoyed it a lot. Had to sell the collection for medical reasons. Hard enough to have to sell but just so disappointing to run into such bad luck. I wish I had paid more attention to what the climate was, especially the sniping situation. But hey, lots of worse things can happen to someone.
This is the primary reason I moved exclusively to BIN format. I look at recent sales and price my item towards the higher end.
Do I miss some upside by not permitting an opportunity for bidding wars? Absolutely! Do I believe for a moment that upside would offset under performing auctions? Not for a minute.
I'm sorry to hear your items hammer prices didn't meet your expectations... hopefully you at least, collectively, got out of them what you originally paid.
This goes to show that consignment sellers don't always get the strongest prices.

<< <i>With the auction format, it's often about the luck of the draw... getting two determined bidders to stumble across your item.

Good points. I was kind of in a hurry to sell and that was a mistake. You're right about consignment sellers, I made a wrong assumption there too (they did a fine job, not blaming them).
