Some interesting prices on Ebay

Have been looking at a few cards on Ebay with BIN only pricing, and sometimes I wonder what the people listing the cards are thinking. I realize that anyone can list and they are free to determine the price of their cards, but when it is so out of line with the market and they keep relishing the card it makes you wonder. Two examples I have seen lately.

#1 - 1970 Johnny Bench # 660 in PSA 8. Card lists for around $155 in SMR and recent auctions show it sells for $155-190. Currently there is one on Ebay for $375 BIN. I contacted the seller and politely asked about the card and if there was something about this card that made it worth 2.5 times SMR auction price. He responded with it is a very nice card and PSA missed it. If that is the case why not review or resubmit the card raw. Looking at the card I agree it should be an 8.5 and possibly a 9, but not paying that much for a card in that grade - will never get your money back.

#2 - 1975 Nolan Ryan PSA 8. This one is going for around $150-220, but Vintage investments has it on Ebay for $895!! Really? How can anyone realistically think that sometime is going to pay over 4x what the card is worth and it is not even a high end example. After you list the card weekly for the entire year you would figure they know it won't sell.

Should be some fun and creative offers on these two cards for sure!

Crazy stuff out there. How about a signed 8 x 10 of Mark Bavaro with an opening bid of $1399 with a buy it now of $1999? I'm so tempted to ask the seller if he left out the decimal point!

I agree with you on those crazy BIN prices. However, with that Bench, maybe the seller is hoping that there are others out there like you who think it MAY come back a "9" if resubmitted. If so, it's a $475.00 - $525.00 card and someone may be willing to pay $300.00+ for it! (Not you or me, but MAYBE some is ... LOL).

I agree that they make think others will think it will come back that grade, and I even asked him that question. It is a new holder so it looks like he already tried that to no avail. Must be a corner that is off, and unfortunately it will never be a 9. That one is not as bad as the 1975 Ryan - $895??? That card has no shot if you check out the scans, and I don't think it will ever get sold. Of course it is always their choice to ask whatever they want for them.

Sellers can obviously ask what they want. They can always drop the price if it doesn't sell. A crazy high price SHOULD stimulate a higher offer or weed out the so called "bottom feeders".

I don't think it's "crazy" at all. It's called smart.

Yes, I do get a chuckle out of some of them as well. Wait long enough and a better deal will come along. If one doesn't maybe the price wasn't all that bad to begin with.

I think there are just as many crazy buyers out there. You know the ones that offer $5 for a card you have as a BIN/BO for $30 and has averaged selling for $20-$30
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
