An eBay tool...

I rarely have issues with eBay. And when I do, they're usually pretty easy to resolve, but this latest issue has presented me with a total tool.

I purchased a run of Super Bowl programs as a gift for a friend. There were a total of 5 programs that I wanted and the seller had all 5 listed as BIN's with $5.00 per for shipping. The prices weren't the cheapest, but it presented an easy opportunity to get all 5 from the same seller at the same time. I inquired if he would combine and discount shipping and he replied, "Yes, $1.00 per book." Well, I bought the items and figured that I would be charged $9.00 for shipping ($5.00 for the first and $1.00 per for the other 4). Survey says, NOT! I was invoiced at $5.00 for the first and $1.00 OFF on the other 4 programs. So, that's $21.00 to send 5 programs.

OK, so I guess I wasn't clear - my bad. Anyway, I paid for the programs and waited and waited and waited. I emailed the seller through eBay after waiting over 2 weeks and get this reply, "Books were posted by media mail and were returned. Gotta repost and try again next week."

So, $21.00 for shipping and he opts for Media Mail? Guessing that cost him about $3.50 and that USPS busted him for abuse of the service. Now, he expects me to wait another week to ship them and then hope they make it through? Why not just send in a Flat Rate Priority box? Why not let me know that there was a problem? That would involve customer service...

Oh, it doesn't end there. I responded that I thought he was being a little cheap and not being responsible in providing timely delivery and don't be surprised if my feedback reflects the extended delay. He responded, "Your threats and demands have been sent to ebay and your books will wait until i get the word from ebay that it is safe to repost."

Threats? Demands? This character should step away from the pipe...

We'll see how this turns out, but after his last reply, I opened a case for each of the 5 programs and forwarded the email correspondence to CMA. Figuring this will only tick him off even more...

I once had an eBay seller send me a fielders glove via Media Mail (charged me for Priority Mail).

Hope this works out well for you.

Depending on how thick those programs are, they may have fit in a Priority Flat Rate Padded Envelope (bubble envelope) for $5.70

Another abuse of Priority Mail I've been seeing lately is sellers using Priority Package supplies and mailing via Media Mail (I get about 20 books/week so I'm used to Media Rate). Back in Richmond my PO never inspected my Media Mail, so there were never any issues, but my new PO in Harrisonburg inspects nearly every piece I get and bills me as posted due on the Media packages that the sender uses Priority supplies (example: putting a book into a Priority bubble mailer and then putting that into a box...or using Priority flat rate cardboard to protect a book placed in a regular bubble mailer and shipped via Media).

They used to mail the books back to the sender, but I asked the PO to bill me rather than them. When this happens I contact the sender and have always received shipping reimbursement.
