Question on altered or non-altered vintage cards??

Hey everyone, it's been a while since my last post.
I am thinking about buying a 33 goudey babe Ruth DP in poor condition. I don't believe the card is altered but it definitely is in poor cond.
My question is this; would you rather buy a card in poor condition that is not altered or a card that had been altered but in much better condition?
Also, which example would be better for resale?

FYI I personally would rather have an un-altered card in worse condition but I obviously don't want to overpay for a poor conditioned card!

Edit for spelling

My preference is unaltered but poor condition. As far as resale, I don't know, but I would prefer to buy a graded card that I know is unaltered.

I don't like altered cards in my collection. I'm not sure what the investment upside would be on a comparative level, but I'd take the unaltered beater any day of the week.
