1955 Topps Jackie Robinson - need advice

I need some advice. I have a really sharp 1955 Topps Jackie Robinson, great color and surface. Probably Ex-Mt. I sent it in for grading and it unfortunately came back evidence of trimming. So i'm kind of stuck with the card. My question, should i send it back in and have the card slabbed "Authentic trimmed/altered?" Would this increase the value vs keeping it raw? Thoughts?

Before you do that contact the person you bought it from, especially if it was on Ebay and no matter what the return policy stated. Post a picture and purchase details and you will get more advice.
  • That's just a hard hobby lesson that I think most of us have learned at some point. I will only purchase a card like that graded or when there's a return policy even then it has to be from a trusted dealer I know. I'd say authenticate it. Still an attractive card most of Jackies are.

    +1

    Sorry this has happened.

I will say - some have received a card back with "evidence" and resub'ed it and it was graded.

As was said - a healthy scan would help. Have you looked at the card closely with any magnifier? Is the card more than 1/32" short? Do you see "cutter's" rough edges? Does the cardboard edge look crushed consistent with someone taking a knife to it?

That's a nice card - sure would be nice to dump it back on the seller.

I had one like that over 20 years ago - Broadway Rick - he went ballistic on me for returning it. What a wonderful experience.

I found that out - also - the hard way.

I purchased the card from Greg Bussineau back in 1992 - a T3 of Bobby Wallace - sub'ed it around 2006 or so? Came back sliced. When I looked close? It was very obvious.

    I'm an idiot. image

If you can't return it, getting it in a holder stating it is authentic would be what I would do.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your honest feedback. I didnt buy it off ebay, so a return may not be possible. I live and learn. I need to measure it and look at it under magnification again. If I can figure out how to post a picture I will.

Look down into the side of the card. Each card has 6 sides(front back and 4 edges). You should be able to see a change in color or smooth compared to v shape rugged.

Does PSA slab many cards as authentic/altered? I know they do it for some really big cards, but I'm not sure if they'd do it for this one. SGC would do it and you never know, you might get it graded through them.

If after close examination you don't see obvious signs of trimming why not submit it one more time. I've read on this forum some members will
sub a EOT card multiple times until they get a grade.

I agree, sending cards in multiple times works. I've done it myself. I hate to spend $17 bucks a crack on re-sending multiple times. Can I sneak this in a monthly special? Value is over $100..

Exactly! I've pulled cards straight from vintage packs that got kicked back for EOT and then graded 8's or 9's the second or third time around. If the grade doesn't fit, resubmit!
