The FUTURE is coming this February! First look at 2015 Topps! And no need for a DeLoran!

Can you believe the FUTURE is almost here? 2015 Topps!

Of course by all this I mean that the second Back to the Future movie has Marty/Doc/Jennifer going to what was then 30 years into the future (2015)! image And now we have our first look at what the future of Topps baseball cards will look like this February! image

You guys may think this is silly but ever since the movie came out in 1989 (I was nine years old at the time) it made me wonder just what the real future 2015 would be like! At long last we will all soon find out!

I think reality is much cooler than what BTTFPII predicted.

On a sports related note, can you imagine if the Cubs had gotten those last seven outs in 2003, then the billboard "Cubs Win [NLCS] Over Miami" would've came true!

    What they got right:
    * Widescreen flat panel TV (which you CAN have drop down from the ceiling if you really want), with channels in the several hundreds...multiple channels at once can occassionally be done
    * Video games without hands...it started with the Wii Remote/Numchuck and then the Xbox Kinect and Playstation Move.
    * TV glasses...assuming the Google Glass or something like it catches on.
    * Partial credit: they predicted phone calls where you can see the other person...you COULD do that but Skype is the more preferred method.
    * They did make some limited edition "Power Laces" a few years back for charity...not sure if they'd catch on with the general public though.
    * 80s nostalgia...you guys remember how 50s nostalgia was really popular in the mid/late 80s (and probably why the first BttF went to 1955)? I guess they figured 80s nostalgia would be just as popular by this point...I think they mostly got this right though now we're moving towards early 90s nostalgia (yes I've noticed neon is coming back). Ironically, the Internet (which would come along about five years after the movie) is one of the main 21st century tech sorts of things yet it helps make RETRO stuff that much more popular and much more easily accessible and affordable.
    * Partial credit: At one of my work places we did use thumb print scans to clock in and out...I do think within the rest of this decade using a thumb print scan to pay for stuff will become an option.

A couple of my personal predictions from the mid-to-late 90s:
    * I predicted that one day we wouldn't need textbooks (at least not as much) and instead would use laptops...my local school system has done that for awhile but now touch screen tablets (that's the MAIN Star Trek Next Generation tech (called padds on the show) that's already come true and it only took 20 years after the show ended!) will probably be next.
    * I figured if we first have records, then 8-tracks (70s), then cassettes (80s), then CDs (90s) I figured something would come next and I predicted the next-gen music format albums would come on tiny cartridges...SD cards are close enough right?

And what Back to the Future Part 2 got wrong:
    * No flying cars or hoverboards obviously
    * They still had phone booths! Oops!! Seriously who would've thought we'd have full color touch screen phones about half the size of a deck of playing cards that among other things you can play Solitaire on? image
    * Queen Diana was a really stupid prediction...no not because she was tragically killed in that car wreck but because she was never in line for the British throne besides...on that end, who knows if even her husband Prince Charles will even get a chance (he's almost 66 now) to be the King (no, not Elvis).
    * Obviously too late for the female President...but for the 2016 election I would not be surprised if BOTH major candidates end up being female.
    * Working out while eating (in the 80s cafe)...not a chance.
    * Pac-Man game with a "DO NOT TOUCH!" label in that cafe...you can totally have those retro arcade games restored and playable (in fact I think there's an arcade museum somewhere where you can play the machines...better bring lots of rolls of quarters! image )
    * The fashions shown in that movie (especially the double neck ties and the funny plastic caps) I don't see happening either.

Well we're in 2015 now, though they actually go to October 24 of this year. Funny thing is regarding that World Series prediction...October 24 is now much too early to do that...in fact last year's Game 7 would've been on Halloween!

Does the "Future Stars" colored lettering look familiar to anyone? From an earlier year issue, 80's or 90's perhaps?Just can't place it, but seems familiar. Or maybe I've confused it with another brand.

Uh, how about Lea Thompson in "All the Right Moves". The movie wasn't very good (still better than Howard the Duck) but there's a scene in there Lea fans won't forget...

Well Miami didn't make the postseason this year but the Cubbies did make the wild card game! Too bad they'll most likely have to beat Pittsburgh on the road to make the playoffs proper.

Sorry if this is a bit late but I just had to mention this (wow, 2015 is already over two years in the past!) Imagine how this scene from the first movie would play out in a Back to the Future: The Next Generation sort of deal:

One of Doc Brown's descendants?: Okay future boy! Tell me, who's the President of the United States??
One of Marty's descendants?: Donald Trump!
Doc descendant: WHAT!?!? The casino guy!?!?!? Gee and I guess you're gonna tell me the Cubs won the World Series the same year he was somehow elected? asking sarcastically
    Marty descendant: Well...ummm...
    Doc descendant: .................................
