1979 Pete Rose OPC PSA 9 just sold for $395!

1979 Pete Rose OPC PSA 9 jsut sold for $395 on Ebay!

I know this is a very difficult card to find centered but all I can say is WOW at $395!

I just found this card in 1 of the boxes I picked up in Vancouver. This card looks to be just a bit better centered than the PSA 9 on Ebay image

That is a nice Rose you have there. I vote to submit it....looks like a solid 9 with a slight tilt.

    Thanks,

    Check this baby out!

This Johnny Bench card has a pop 1 in PSA 8! Also, there are ONLY 2 PSA 6's and NO PSA 7's!

VCP shows the PSA 8 sold for $293 back in 2008!

Sharp cards, Tom! Is there a slight notch on bottom edge of the Rose? If not, you have at least a shot at a 9 on that one. I would say you also have a shot at an 8 on the Bench.

Thanks Tim. I went back to check that spot on the bottom. There is no lift or notch on the edge. That spot has just a little more of a rough cut in that spot.

that bench is sharp and a tough year to find those one's centered. I am constantly looking for a rose (all star/sporting news) of that year and it is completely plagued w/ centering issues....

Tom, those 2 cards are amazing. I have never seen a copy of that Bench that is even close to that one. The Rose is simply amazing with the nice rough cut. Well done!

that's a nice bench, and it may be my exhasution from a 12 mile run before work talking, but does it look like it's got a bit of a diamond cut?

nice rose tom. as a well known rose collector the $395 price is just above the average i think. think i paid $350 for mine..after the well known rose master set owners have it it still stays strong. good luck on the bench thinking psa 7 on that which is still a nice card. tough 70 opc issue, my rose all star is a psa 7.

Wow, congrats again for the 76 Rose. That set is so tough. I have a PSA 7 Morgan, which I believe is a pop 2 with one higher.

wouldn't be the 1st time. I've seen it bounce back and forth before on a few rare cards (and not so rare cards as well)...i also think it factors qualified cards differently, correct?

meaning an 8oc would show higher on the "my inventory" pop report than a pop 7....i never really use the public pop reports though. i add it to "my inventory" and gauge it off that, but agreed they should be the same.

you plan on selling or keeping? you know im always in the market for high grade ryans n roses!

but then looking at your link there's seven of the 9ocs, which i guess are supposed to be equiv to 7's, right? so what's listed in mine, doesn't really make sense either...

    mine should read pop 10

I noticed somebody has this BVG 9.5 listed right now. I don't know that it would cross to a PSA 10, but the centering sure is nice considering what's typical 1976 OPC baseball.

At $2,555.00 obo, they're probably reasonably far off of what the sale price would actually be. Another BVG 9.5 did not sell under Probstein auction starting at $1,995.00.

that card was from a hand cut sheet. I know, because I tried!

not too far off though if it woulda crossed to at least a 9....

    Great score!

Would love to find a 1979 OPC Schmidt in PSA 10.

I remember popping the first 1979 OPC Schmidt in PSA 9 a number of years ago. Although the 1979s are relatively plentiful compared to, say, 1974 or 1976, they are certainly crazy hard in top grade.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
