<< <i>I bought a 1977 Danny White rookie PSA 10 for $75 about 4 years ago. Any thoughts what that might go for now? >>
It's a pop 11 out of 281 graded examples, but I don't know how heavily collected that set is. Throw it up on eBay with a ridiculous BIN and take offers.

My problem with being a collector is that I really don't want to get rid of it, even when I know I can make triple or more on my investment. I think I bought the last on that sold, maybe.

I would have the same problem. I know I could at least double my investment in graded vintage football RCs, but I really like my collection. I had 2 1972 T Staubach PSA 8 RCs and it pained me to sell one of them.
1977 Topps jim plunkett pssa 10 $295
neither are rookies.
1980 phil simms psa 10 $600
his rookie
Maybe Danny is in between these, I hope.

I could see $300+ on the right day and the right buyer. He was a well known QB in the 1980's, just seemed to be on the next tier below the star QBs, maybe like Ken Anderson.
The question is would a PSA 9 and the cash in your pocket be better? I have a 1955 Topps All-American set that used to have all of the stars in PSA 8. I sold them and traded down to well centered PSA 7's and used the difference to buy more vintage football RCs.
One hasn't sold since 2012, that's a $500+ card all day long. If it were mine I'd start it as an $799 BIN and give it a month to see what offers come in.
I've always been kind of intrigued by the comparison of football and baseball HOF's from the 1970's and 1980's. Football has always had high demand depending on the teams. Steelers, Cowboys, Packers, maybe Bears. Those teams fan bases really drive these guys cards up. But you get out of those core teams, then you really see a dropoff
Walter Payton's 2nd year 1977T card in PSA 10 last sold for almost $6,000. Pop 5. That's not bad in relation to similar level baseball players....but take a guy like Steve Largent, one of the best players in history. His PSA 10 RC is tough to find. Only 17. Can't even break 2K.
What's it all mean? I dunno...just some good time wasting research on my part

<< <i>I'm getting way too old when 1980 is vintage >>
Rest assured, 1980 ain't vintage, it's clearly modern. Vintage is defined by PSA as 1969 and older, and I agree. Notice that PSA currently spotlights "15 Modern Card Prices That Will Blow Your Mind," and all of the cards are from 1971 and later. Also, notice in the PSA Set Registry that player sets are divided into "Vintage Player Sets (Pre 1970)" and "Modern Player Sets (1970-present)."
So you're not too old!

Not saying 1980 is Vintage, but PSA's definition is nothing more than an opinion…with no more validity than yours or mine. Anyone think 52 Topps, 48 Bowman or 35 Chicle were referred to as "modern" in 1980?

PSA's definition is not just an opinion, for they set the standards. PSA is the largest and most trusted third-party grading and authentication company in the world.
<< <i>the 2nd year Payton is an absolute bear in high grade.

17 more posts from now, I'm expecting something incisively witty from you my friend. The best of the best. The crème de la crème. Lo mejor de lo mejor.
Even with as much adoration as I have for the player and team you cleverly cited, something similar to this would be more anticlimactic than an important thread that has been summarily extinguished.
I'll be watching.
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

I could soooo easily "lock" this thread. I'll pass for now.
I'm giving myself +1 for restraint

easy cowboy…didn't say they weren't great…the best in fact….but they don't decide what is vintage and what is not.
