Grading

Hello,

I need help here, just got the 6 free grading from PSA and was disappointing that only 2 out of 6 came out a 8 and the rest was (6.5)(6)(7)(7) I don't see any thing wrong with it just I wanted an 8 for my register set. Why is that, does the graders is tired or just lazy or what. Now those cards are worthless, might sell it on ebay. Any help would be much appreciated.

thanks guys....

Welcome to the boards....I am sorry your frustrated, but I am sure PSA graded your cards as to what they felt the quality of the card represented on their grading scale. If you feel strongly that your card merits a grade higher than what they received, my advise would be to crack them out and resubmit them.

It is amazing what can look like a perfect card in hand and to the eye, and under magnification there could be a minor surface wrinkle, PD, or bubble that accounts for a technical grade. But that is the key: to keep in mind that the grades assigned are technical grades, and if they look amazing to your eye and collectors' eyes, that's what counts. Unless of course one admires their cards under a loupe image

As that sage old saying goes, "Collect the card, not the grade."

I certainly would not be too quick to call the cards that came back below 8 worthless, as depending on how good they look and what they are, they might be very valuable. We routinely see some 7s sell for more than some 8s, etc.

    Hope that helps!

  • I started 2 years ago and am getting better at seeing the errors in cards. I thought all 9 and 10 and now understand the difference more.

Grading is a crapshoot. Sometimes the candy, sometimes the wrapper.
