Which is more desirable?....... '86 football wax box with an "x" out from a sealed case .......or......... A wax box with no "x" out that is not from a sealed case.

Interesting question. Aesthetically, I would go with the non X-out box. Value wise, I think at the present time I think they are pretty even. As others have said, I don't attribute any more value to the packs in a non X-out box than an X-out box as it is pretty simple to just transfer the packs from a X-out to a non X-out box if so desired. As such, I think the packs within a FASC X-out are likely to be more safe than the packs out of a non X-out box. That said, many collectors are after the boxes as collectibles unto themselves and as such the box becomes the thing.

Do you want to display it or do you want the less likely looked at or shuffled packs? If you want to display it, the x out boxes stink.

I think your odds are better that the x out box FASC has the original 36 packs. There is always the chance that it went to some store where the high schooler played hockey with them and then put them back in the box before they were returned to topps. But supposedly a high percentage of these boxes were marked final sale before they ever left topps for the first time. '86 fb didn't sell that well. If it's a warehouse sealed x out box, I'm completely confident the packs are the original 36 and untouched. I bought one for that reason and there is no way I would trade it for a non x-out box that isn't FASC.

If it's not FASC I assume the back card was looked at, packs replaced, ect... I'm sure I have plenty of boxes with the original 36, but I have no way to tell.
