My eBay shipping address isn't my address

While I'm on hold with ebay, I thought I would ask here. Last night I realized that my "Primary shipping address" on ebay was not my address. It was a person I've never heard of in a different state.
So my last three purchases were mailed to him before I caught it. I can't find his name in any of my previous transactions (buying or selling). This seems like a really dumb way to steal stuff (although it worked for three of my small orders). Is there some way I could have accidentally added this address? Yes, I've changed my password.

Baffled.

  • If you have ever bought something on Ebay and had it shipped to another address it adds that address to your shipping addresses.
After I hit a home run I had a habit of running the bases with my head down. I figured the pitcher already felt bad enough without me showing him up rounding the bases.

If you've never heard of that address, never sent sold items to it or received purchases from it, then I am thinking your account was hacked.

That was my first thought as well, but it would be incredibly stupid to give someone your address after hacking them (especially since it would constitute federal mail fraud, I believe). I'll vote for database corruption on eBay's end.
  • So I googled the guys name and found his Twitter handle. Then I searched for that in the eBay seller search and found his ebay ID. He appears to be a normal card/autograph buyer/seller with perfect feedback since 1999. I sent him a message, but haven't heard back. Doesn't seem like a scammer at all.

eBay's official response was: We don't know how it happened. Change your passwords.
  • I'm a little confused. You say your "ebay" primary shipping addy is not your address. Does that mean your paypal primary shipping address is that guy's address as well?
You're paying with paypal; not paying with ebay. I just noticed because I just paid for item with PP, and in mid process before I click the confirm & pay, it shows my shipping address right there.
To be confirmed, doesn't both address have to match up with ebay and paypal?

My Paypal account shows only one (correct) address. In ebay, you can apparently (I never knew this) store several shipping addresses. One of them is designated as the "Primary Shipping Address". Apparently, even though I paid with Paypal, the (wrong) Primary Shipping Address was used. Even when I look at the Paypal transaction, it gives the other guy's address as my "confirmed" shipping address.

I've contacted the guy who received my cards twice this week through ebay and he hasn't responded. Both times I was very polite (Hey look at this crazy thing that happened…can I pay for you to ship my cards to me?).

I vaguely (maybe?) remember the guy's name from a message board, but can't find it through any of my searches.

Wasn't there a guy on here one time whose child was having health problems and he began scamming people?
