<< <i>Superman!
Very well done and informative video near bottom of the listing. >>
I have to imagine these are legit bids too since you had to be pre qualified.
It may say it in the video but this sold in 2011 for over 2 million. I remember reading somewhere about it then.

LOL...that's alot of root canals and crowns, Mike!!
The auction is for pre-approved bidders only, so you better email the seller before setting that snipe!

I am no expert on comics but I would think this shatters the 2011 price with what has happened to elite collectibles in the past few years.

Oh cool. I didn't realize there were two that had graded this high.
It was interesting for him to mention the Normal Rockwell paintings going from under $10,000 to over $4,000,000 in a thirty year time span.
<< <i>Maybe it's just me but I have a hard time buying that all those bidders (16-16 unique) can swing that book... >>
There are only seven different bidders.

<< <i>In case anyone is unaware of the CGC grading system, 9.0 is not equivalent to a PSA 9. There are grades 9.2, 9.4, 9.6, 9.8. The big premiums kick in around 9.6/9.8 for Silver and Bronze Age books, but GA books are so rare, and particularly this book, that 9.0 is astonishingly high grade, especially with white pages. >>
Paul is correct. Although for golden age books 9.0 is high grade. This isn't the best copy in existence though. That copy belongs to Dave Anderson aka The Dentist who has the Mile High pedigree copy that former CGC president and chief grader and now owner of CCS grading says would grade at 9.4.
This is an unbelievable copy no doubt. Will be interesting to see where it does end up at.

Why? I've seen guys who have 10 million plus wall displays where every book there is their personal collection.
I personally know 2 who could make the moves needed to buy that book.
The deep end of the pool in the comic book market is extremely deep.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
<< <i>Holy smokes! Fuel up the Delorean. We need to go grab some Superman comic books! >>
Yessir that would be nice. And you could pick up some Detective 27s (1st Batman) and All-American 15s (1st Green Lantern and a tough book in high grade) and have yourself a nice little 1million+ per book party!

<< <i>If this sells for 2M, how much will eBAY get? Looks like no PayPal. Surprising to me this doesn't go to AH. >>
Heritage would probably be the one to handle it and they would take a hefty buyers premium. With this book you don't need an auction house to create juice for it. It has its own juice. So by putting it on eBay you can:
A-sell for more as eBay would take 10% which allows the buyer to spend more since there won't be a buyers premium (15-18% iirc)
B-and probably more likely the book allows the seller to flush out interested parties, negotiate a price, and then sell the book privately with no fees generated. That would be my guess as to why the book is available on eBay.

According to the video in the listing, the comic was stored in a cedar chest in a dark, dry environment at high altitude until it was discovered in the late 70s/early 80s.

because it's the opening bid. what expectation might that person have had to win with such a bid? it's like bidding that much on Tom Brady's house.
