Big shout out to Jeff at Card Country

I had the pleasure of meeting up with Jeff at the National this year and I must say it was a positive experience. Jeff is truly a gentleman of the hobby and absolutely has a passion for people as well as cardboard. It is always great to meet up with fellow board members and put a face to a name. I missed out on the 58 Maris 8 but the 55 Koufax and 55 Killebrew 8's are awesome.

The Koufax 8 was so nice. I settled for his 4 but love it.

I have been out of the hobby for about 10 years or so - some due to family, house, kids (like most people), but mainly due to how some of the dealers were treating people and each other. Started back in about two years ago, and the youngest has started going to the National with me the past two years along with the wife - it is to the point that the entire family looks forward to the National. This year we brought more people with us, and between the Indians game, 3 days at the show, and the kids ripping packs every night in the hotel room they had a blast.

Have to say the environment is much better than it was several years ago from everyone, and even the players that sign now really take the time to talk to the kids, take photos with them, and make it more of an experience - I remember back in Chicago about 7-8 years ago watching some HOF players sign and barely make eye contact or say a word. The last two years my son has gotten autos from Ernie Banks, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, and all three could not have been any nicer. All of them asked to take photos, talked with the boys, and really made it a special experience - think we are not going back again next year. Coolest thing was last year Bench took a photo with my son, and this year we made an 8x10 photo of it and had him sign it. He was nice enough to ask his name and personalize it for him.

The other thing was the dealers have been very helpful with some folks no longer in the hobby , and got to meet Jeff and family for the first time. They were super nice and patient and always willing to let you look at anything and help out. Found some great 70's cards for my brother who could not attend, and picked up a nice Mantle for the youngest one. Jeff's inventory is incredible with with all of his cards in the high end of the range for the card(s) - loved the Shoeless Joe card which if not for my current basement man-cave renovation might have been in serious consideration with the wife. Cannot wait for next year!
