Better late than never... National Pickups

I had a great time at the National in Cleveland. It was good to see a few of you again and meet a few new faces.

My main focus this year was just going to be working on a few of my raw football sets and picking up (and ripping) some packs!

I did manage to acquire a few upgrades for my '58 & '68 raw sets and almost finished my '59 set! Nicely centered '53s were pretty scarce but I did pick up a few of those to bring me within 10 of completing that set in mostly centered ex condition!

I did bust a few packs at the show, but nothing worth posting.

My "big" purchase came when I run across something for my Browns collection that I had never seen in person before... A full set of 1946 (AAFC) Sears Browns cards! They weren't from a full sheet, but they're in pretty nice condition. I found them Wednesday, and thought about them all day Thursday and finally pulled the plug just as the show was closing that day. My wonderful bank decided that someone must have stolen my CC and my transaction was declined! So on phone to resolve the problem, they say give it 5 minutes and it should work... NOPE. The guy had completely wrapped up his tables for the night but he was gracious enough to allow my to give him a down payment to hold them until Friday morning. Another call to the bank and a couple test purchases that evening and I was good to go the next day!

I was very happy to finally get a hold of these...

Here's a couple packs I picked up from Steve to bust sometime. Two years I've never opened yet!

Scott those Sears cards are AWESOME!...I was only there on Friday (flew in from AZ to visit family....I am from Cleveland heights originally)...I wish I could have met you. We have done a couple deals and PMd in the past. I am thinking about selling a bunch of my stuff (mostly browns stuff) PM me if you would like to talk about any of it (Fletcher Collection)...you can see my Jim Brown master set and then from there see what other sets I have. I love seeing the things that you guys returned from the National with. Very cool stuff. Those Sears football cards appear to be larger than a traditional sports card. They seem to take up a lot of space in the Card Saver Is. What are the dimensions of them Scott? I have never seen them before.

Nice pickups. Never saw those Sears cards before. Wonder if other Sears stores around the country produced any other localized sets. Was George Young part of the NYG football family? I remember a George Young was the GM for the Giants some years ago. Everytime I see the mid/late 60s wax packs I stop and think how many times I walked right past all those packs.

    Scott,

As always, it was great seeing you my friend. Great job on the pick ups. Love the 68/69 wax packs. I think you should wait till the Browns start the season 8-0 before you should open though.

    Hiya Scott

I've never seen that Sears set before - "7 stores in greater Cleveland" - wonder how many now?

I like the Otto card. I've got him on an exhibit panel. I'm a fan of the more 'oddball' stuff. I just picked up a few Pepsi panels mainly because I like the looks.

    Very nice!

The packs are beauties also. For savin or rippin?

    Congratulations.

Great packs but the 68 one should be 2nd series, first series packs advertise the poster pin up

It does me no good to go to my grave with unopened packs in my stash image

At this point I would consider a 0.500 season record something to celebrate!

I never buy a pack I don't intend to rip at some point, but I'm learning to savor the packs more and more as the prices continue to rise which has resulted in quite a backlog at the moment! But I will bust at least one of these packs posted above this year along with my usual Christmas rips.
