Now that the internet has made us all "intimate"...

Now that the internet has made us all intimate, and we "love" those reg-heads directly above or below us, and we've become such good friends, do we have to make a "special" effort not to collude?

No, who loves those above him (or below him if they are moving up)?

Collusion is a natural byproduct. It's unavoidable, and probably asists sellers as often as it harms them. I PM friends when I see a coin they need being auctioned, and vice-versa. PCGS could be thought of as colluding by publishing a price guide too, I suppose.

If I already have the coin and don't really need it except that it's a great price, I'll try not to step on a fellow member's bid. If I need the coin and we're bidding full price, it's every fool for themself.

I guess I'm too much of an idealist; I don't believe people
snipe me at the end just to keep me from climbing the ladder.
I will bid on coins that are a good price, or to upgrade my stuff.
I DO feel that it IS in our best interest to "collude" (if that's
the right word) with each other to HELP us acquire those coins we
need. This should not be a competition, but about accomplishment!

If I need the coin and am actively seeking it, I will bid what I was willing to pay. If another board member is willing to pay more, so be it. If they are willing to pay less, guess the coin is mine. image

I wasn't really worried, as prices are cruising up a bit faster than my income, but I was interested in the buyer's opinion of the '35/4s recently auctioned by Heritage.

I generally try not to bid against friends. There's plenty of stuff out there that I still need for my set. I dont have enough money to worry about fighting over coins with buddies.
