What are your plans (if any) for your collection if you were to unexpectedly pass?

Sorry for the grim topic....but it's one that's been on my mind more and more lately, now that I have a fiance and son.

What are your plans (if any) for your collection if you were to unexpectedly pass?

My son is too young to even understand my collection (he's 1) and my fiance has no interest in it.

I was thinking about just leaving instructions to cosign it all and collect whatever comes from that...but does anybody else have any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I keep an inventory list with estimated worth (updated annually) for my wife and brother in a safety deposit box.

They have Steve's info at BBCE, and a trusted friend to help coordinate value and best direction to take. Most likely a cosign situation.

I have suggested to sell 50% immediately. Remaining 50% sit and wait.

  • All my modern cards would go to my two nephews who don't know any better (although one does know the difference between a Puig and a Trout).

The rest I would consign and then split proceeds between the two for college educations.

That's exactly what I did. Told her to just give him a call, that you can completely trust what he tells you.

    Well played, sir. Well played.

I keep a detailed inventory with the prices I paid as a reference point for negotiations.

I also put together a list of dealers who may buy the entire collection, as well as those I don't want my beneficiaries to consign with.

Lastly, I have a good friend in the hobby who would be willing to help sell off my collection.

My first instinct is to be buried with them.

I have never even given it a seconds thought.

If I died tomorrow and she wanted to sell them she would probably get in contact with Rob (Wrestlingcardking) and it would go from there.

I would strongly advise that she start with the everything outside of the number one sets but let's not consider this scenario too much!

That is so funny. I did the exact same thing.

I can't imagine my poor wife having to sift through and make decisions regarding a sports card collection after losing such a wonderful man image

Since I have no boys to leave them to, my wife will probably just give them to her next husband.
