This one is pretty confusing

So, just got back a large order and everything is hunky dory, EXCEPT this one. I have been over this with a loupe and can't find a hidden wrinkle. Wondering:
1. do you see something I don't?
2. if it really doesn't make sense as a 3, what would you do besides re-subbing, which doesn't make a whole lot of economic sense. Any other options?

I'm guessing it's a mechanical error (wrong grade on flip). A surface wrinkle is an automatic 5 provided there isn't any other glaring problem.

Grader with bad handwriting wrote an 8 and person keying it in thought it was a 3?

I would say that is a logical explanation.

The centering is definitely 8 material and I can't see anything else to knock it down.

I would submit it for a review and then we can talk about the 5 grade bump for years to come. angeleno might attain greater fame than Pete Rose or Ty Cobb, at least here.

    Haha.

I agree with the review. I would also put a note along with it explaining you believe it's a mechanical error. If they decide it was, you won't have to pay.

In general if a card this sharp had say paper loss would it grade a 3?

    Just curious.

I don't think it can grade as high as 3 with paper loss, can't remember if it's an automatic 2 or 1.

What about a pin hole? I recall those killing the grade big too.

Pretty sure that's an automatic 1.

  • I got a three once on a 1975 topps MVP card
Ironically I think it was the 1970 MVP with bench
Card is perfect sans a slighted touch on a corner. An 8.5 all day.

Came back a three and I see if I tilt it a subtle bend right across the middle of card. The kind you see when you tilt in light.
Wasn't there when I sent it is all I can tell you -

  • Thanks to all. I will call cust service and find best way to have them deal with it.

You shouldn't have to pay for a review. Call customer service. They should help with this. It's a clear mistake.

  • Cust service said to send back to them attn: her and they will review. she said the one thing that could make a 3 besides a wrinkle would be water mark, but i don't see that. been all over it with 10x loupe
