What is it Like Being a Grader?

Hi again, I have been a collector for a long time, but am now just getting and buying more cards graded. I have wondered what is like being a grader. For example, what makes a good grader and what entry level skills are needed? What knowledge or skills does PSA look for? What is the grader turnover at PSA like, do folks remain graders for very long? Just some idle thoughts.

p.s. I am retired and have no interest in becoming a grader.....just curious.

They mention in their SEC docs that their graders average something like 20+ years experience. I would imagine turnover is low.

the ladies. go into a bar, casually let it slip that you are a psa grader, and sit back while the ladies flock to you. it is akin to being a rock star or a professional athlete of the highest standard.

It's probably not all it's cracked up to be, but I'm sure it has it's moments. Does each grader have a specialty year/ genre or could one grader be grading 1952 Topps one day and 1987 Topps the next?

Chicks think cards are dumb until they find out they are worth money. That changes everything.

My wife was the same way till she pulled a 1/1 Cubs pitchers card a few years back and sold it on ebay for $175+.

She picked out one pack from Target and pulled that! She's so lucky.

That is a great story! I don't care who you are pulling a hit out of a pack is a major thrill.
