PSA grading question

Over the years, I have been involved in dozens upon dozens of submissions to PSA; most of them being vintage baseball cards. A lot of trial and error has produced increasingly better results and I'm really starting to enjoy success when my orders pop. One thing that still trips me up from time to time is the dreaded "mini-sized" designation. My understanding is that standard cards (1957 to modern) need to measure 2 1/2 X 3 1/2 to meet grading standards.

My question for the grading experts on this forum is this..."How much forgiveness or leeway is given regarding measurements when PSA grades cards?" I have a hard time believing that all cards have to be exact when being sent in for grading. I don't want to continue to be disappointed by receiving "mini-sized" results. Thanks for all responses!

I've been wondering the same thing.

When submitting vintage, especially pre-war but newer vintage as well, it is my habit to size them up against each other, and split the size variances up among multiple subs such that there is no variance within the sub even though there is within the set issue. Possibly an unnecessary step, but either way, it's just how I've been doing things in order to minimize my paranoia about getting EOT or min size returns on cards I'm confident are factory cut.

I guess I just wish there was more transparency by PSA on this issue. For example, in the monthly SMR edition they outline specific examples of what factors make a card PSA 10, PSA 9, PSA 8, etc. They even talk about all examples of qualifiers and why they fit into each category.

Why no mention of card measurement requirements under the PSA grading standards? Just hoping to learn as much s s possible so I can avoid future mistakes on submissions.
