What is the investment potential for these Topps Hope Diamond cards?

The same PSA 10 Topps Hope Diamond Mike Trout is back on eBay, and no its not mine. What is the upside on these cards?

There isn't one, it's not Bowman and it's not Chrome, nor is it the "first" card...not to mention, Trout is about as tapped as he can be in the hobby world.

  • The card on eBay is #45 of 60 so it is his most rare Topps RC's, would love to have it but not sure of the price!

The card sold a few days ago for $720. I guess the buyer is hoping for a quick profit.

If you want to own it, then buy it with the knowledge that it has a greater potential to drop by 40% than increase by 10% at that price point. Amongst modern day prospectors and rookie collectors, that isn't the card to have, it's just a nice looking card that is nice to have if the price is right. Nice card, but again, little upside as an investment.

There is NO new cards that I would buy hoping to make money on in a few years
  • How are you able to see that the last auction ended for $720? I seem to never be able to find out the close of these BIN auctions....

When you first open the auction click on the picture where it says SOLD, That will open the old auction. Scroll about half way down the page and click on PRINT. That will open another page that shows what it sold for.

    +1

If recent history is any indication... Mesa will overpay for this "must have" piece, attempt to sell it shortly afterwards, but with no takers will eventually resign himself to await its future appreciation in an exclamation laden post. image

  • Looking at it as an investment opportunity I would have to say that this card is right up there with the more rare Bowman signed cards. You have to say that its a cool looking card of the up and coming......
