    Excellent!

Nice sleuthing by those involved in finding the coins and going after the perp(s).

So, they were smart enough to rob a coin dealer yet they weren't smart enough to crack the coins out before trying to sell them. Am I the only one that finds this strange?

A smart fence knows if you crack out MS66 coins, you're only going to get AU money at best when you go to sell them. image

Crack them out of a PCGS holder and send them to NGC and get a MS67.image

I seriously doubt the crooks even know what PCGS and NGC are. They only see "gold" and "silver" and probably thought they were worth $20 each. They may have tried to crack them out unsuccessfully ... which would explain why only a few were recovered.

Another theory: they cracked the lower grades and sold them raw to pawn shops, etc. and then sold the highest-graded bunch as slabs to get their max dollar. This seems most likely.
