Beautiful coin MS 67 caliber so the the ebay seller say's.

So in the description the seller says, beautiful coin close to MS67. So I e-mail him & I say, If it is that great, why don't you have it graded & slabbed, and you will get more money for it. I have done maybe 3 times to sellers, and never get an answer.

I've wondered about that sort of thing myself. The list of my thoughts on that can go on & on, and range from deception to simply being old school & they're not into plastic.

do the images not leave enough to reason for a decision that can at least be estimated by a potential buyer? i'm legitimately curious.

It use to be you could send a question to a seller, and your question with the seller's response would be posted for all to see. Now you never see questions and answers posted. There are plenty of times when sellers have been asked the same questions over and other, when we all suspect the seller knows the problem and is trying to pull a fast one, where having the posted Q&A would be beneficial to less savvy buyers.

Did eBay make it so questions and answers could remain private to help the sellers?

Why bother advising the seller on a coin you are not interested in?

I sold a roll of 49S Cents 10 years ago that was a monster. It was average MS 66 when that meant something, and several coins would have gone 67. I had never sent a coin in for grading so had no experience doing that, so just put the roll up for auction. It sold for 10x ask, and I was happy. I did receive a question to the effect "if there are 67s in there why not have them graded?" though not so nicely asked. I considered the question condescending and to be an accusation of overgrading so I did not respond. The guy who bought that roll put it away and didn't send any in for grading either, so I still don't know how that roll would grade. I did keep an even nicer roll from that group so maybe someday I'll send it in...Ray

  • Dang now I want to know the listing so I can see the coin. I have been asked that a couple times and in most cases it is asked in a very sarcastic way. Buy the coin not the holder is my usual reply which of course causes more snottiness from the one asking.
Some timjes it is not worth the expense to send a coin in to get it entombed.

I believe the seller has the option of whether or not they want the question and answer to be made public.

I think they made it a choice in preferences. The default is hidden I think.

do you mean the question would post automatically, even against the seller's wishes? i've never known this to be true but i do know the seller has/had the option to post an inquiry to the listing or not with a series of checking boxes or something to the like. it has been so long since i've tinkered with that setting, i don't recall how to access it or if it is still an option.

Are we talking about an MS67 2014 nickel or an MS67 Capped Bust Half?

Simple fact is he's not supposed to give a numerical grade in a RAW coin listing. He is opening his listing up to being reported and eBay nuking the listing. image

There's a check box any time you answer a question. That said, the question will appear at the very bottom of a listing. For any seller that uses a template with terms and other things, these questions will be so far off the main screen that no one would even see them. It's the same reason edits are useless. I've told eBay they should allow edits to go at the very top of the page so buyers can actually see what changed, but that fell on deaf ears. The real only way to edit a listing with bids is to end it and relist with the corrections.
