1953 Topps missing cards: paging Bob Lemke

According to Keith Olbermann video posted yesterday, just this past weekend Bob Lemke uncovered definitive proof of who the six players are there were omitted from the 1953 Topps set.

They are:
253 Joe Tipton
261 Ken Wood
267 Hoot Evers
268 Harry Brecheen
271 Billy Cox
275 Pete Castiglione

So, Bob: I'll be needing a '53 Topps Billy Cox for my binder! image

Here's the painting that was to have been used:

    Hiya Geordie

I'll take the opportunity again to thank Bob Lemke for his contribution to our hobby.

That's OK Geordie - been there.

I would've posted on the Bowman vs Topps case again but I've already bored 3 board members to death!

Last time I saw it, Bill Bossert at Mid-Atlantic Coin in Swathmore, Pa., had the Cox and Castiglione paintings. That was in 1981. We featured them in an article in Baseball Cards magazinein 1982.
