Haelan Labratories, Inc. v. Topps Chewing Gum, Inc.

The court case Olbermann was referring to involves Bowman (Haelan...) and Topps in 1953.

I'm not a lawyer and don't understand all the jargon but it appears that the important part has to do with the right of an individual to own their own likeness/name and can not be used without permission and/or compensation.

It was referred to as a "Right of Publicity" and considered a "property" right so it survives the death of the celebrity.

So, in the legal field they can thank baseball cards for an important landmark decision in the annals of Law.

I always thought the sixth missing player was one of the artworks from the REA auction a while back. I wonder who has the Hoot Evers.......

I made these when the the paintings went up for auction.....
